#flashbacksunday to 3 years ago when I was happy to “nail” the #middlesplits , after more than a year of repeating a diligent #stretchingroutine . I am smiling at my ignorance of that time; thinking that only “practice” counts. Yes, #asanapractice and stretching will help you to get rid of myofascial #tension , but finally you’ll hit #compression , blocking your efforts to go “deeper”. To be honest with myself and accept my skeletal uniqueness and #limitations : I personally don’t have the bones to do a perfect #straddle , but I can push myself in a shape that is very close to “perfection”. Now I wonder: what’s the use? The goal of practicing yoga postures is to harmonize the flow of chi / prana and not to nail a perfect looking shape.
The function of middlesplits is to stretch the inner thighs and groin (and harmonize vital energy along the Liver meridians); as long as you feel a mild stretch or pulling sensation along that area without strain, your middlesplits will “come” with practice. When pain or intense pressure is felt (probably in the hip or knee), you might be at the end of your range of motion for that movement (abduction of femur) in that shape. No stretching or yoga practice will change your bones!
